Continuing on our homebuying journey: We've submitted an offer. Once your offer is accepted, make sure to have the home inspected by a qualified inspector. They can identify any issues that may need to be addressed before closing, such as problems with the roof, foundation, plumbing, electrical system, and more.
Here are 15 things a home inspector may look for during a home inspection:
1. The condition of the roof, including any leaks,
damage, or signs of wear and tear.
2. The condition of the foundation, including any
cracks or signs of settling.
3. The condition of the walls, ceilings, and floors,
including any signs of water damage, cracks, or
other defects.
4. The condition of the plumbing system, including
any leaks or blockages.
5. The condition of the electrical system, including
any outdated wiring or safety hazards.
6. The condition of the HVAC system, including any
issues with heating or cooling.
7. The condition of the windows and doors,
including any signs of wear and tear or damage.
8. The condition of the insulation and ventilation in
the attic and crawl spaces.
9. The condition of the chimney and fireplace,
including any safety hazards or maintenance
issues.
10. The condition of the gutters and downspouts,
including any signs of clogs or damage.
11. The presence of pests or insects, including
termites or rodents.
12. The presence of mold or mildew, including any
signs of water damage or moisture.
13. The condition of the appliances and fixtures,
including the stove, dishwasher, and toilets.
14. The presence of lead or asbestos, which can be
harmful if disturbed.
15. Any other safety hazards or issues that may
impact the condition or livability of the home.
It's also important to be aware of potential hazards like lead and asbestos, which can be present in older homes. Here are some helpful resources on these topics:
